Clark & Gray Street Intersection Improvements Complete

The intersection of Clark Avenue and Gray Street just got a makeover.  According to Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association (OTORA) President Steve LeBard, it was a community effort that brought about this display of beautification.

“By working with the SBCAG, Supervisor Joni Gray, and Santa Barbara County Public Works we were able to acquire over $300,000 in federal stimulus monies to build our new, modern intersection,” he explains.

The goals of the project were not just to increase the aesthetic appeal of the intersection, but also to improve vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety as well as comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilties Act.

“OTORA lobbied for the project,” says LeBard, “And we were able to get certain project enhancements including eight trees with grates, brickwork in the sidewalks, stamped concrete crosswalks, and planters.”

Danny George Landscaping and the Old Town Garden Center have adopted the planters, while the trees will be part of the Memorial Tree program that OTORA has established to dedicate trees in honor of loved ones.  The trees are currently still available and all proceeds will go toward a Veterans Memorial Flagpole at the entrance to Old Orcutt.

“We would like to thank everyone that helped make this project a reality,” says LeBard, “Please continue to help by supporting the businesses in Old Town Orcutt.”
