Old Orcutt Merchants Association Promotes Orcutt commerce
Old Town Orcutt has been seeing a welcome boom in new business as of late and members of the Old Orcutt Merchants Association are ready to lend their support.
In 2010 the Merchants Association formed with the purpose of strengthening and promoting local commerce.
In addition to welcoming new businesses to town and assisting current shop owners, they also make it a priority to get involved in local events that bring people into the community.
“Last year we got more involved in the Christmas Parade and worked with the Lions Club to have supplemental activities like the bands and things like that,” says Old Orcutt Merchants Association President Loren Gasser, “We wanted people to be able to spend more time here.”
They also held a social and welcome party for the local car clubs and became involved in the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce.
This year they will continue to stay involved and to develop relationships with the new merchants on the block.
Gasser explains that the Merchants Association is always looking for ways to show the broadest view of what Old Town has to offer. To this end, they plan to do what they can to promote our new microbreweries and our Old Orcutt wine trail as well as new and existing restaurants, shops, and services.
“We’re also trying to get a program going at Vandenberg so they know what’s here and won’t just drive by on their way to Santa Maria,” shares Gasser, “And we’re also supporting the trails initiative to build trails starting at Orcutt Union Plaza to Rice Ranch.”
With planning under way for the upcoming year and a handful of new businesses to welcome to Old Orcutt, the Merchants Association are sure to have busy monthly meetings.
“This year we’re trying out a new format,” says Gasser, “Each month our meetings will be at different locations of the various businesses all over town. That way we can share what we’re doing and see what others are doing.”
It’s all about community for the Old Orcutt Merchant’s Association. To find out more, or to become a member, visit www.oldorcuttmerchants.com.
